How To Make Kids With ADHD Focus On Homework: Directions For Parents

As a parent it can become so hard for you to see your child struggling with things in life that other kids their age are doing so well, and effortlessly. This is one of the main problems that parents of kids with ADHD have to deal with. There is nothing as saddening as knowing that in one way or the other, your child will always struggle to be at the same level with their age-mates, and this is one of the worst situations that a parent can have to live through. Your child is so innocent, yet there are trouble and challenged by something that they do not understand, or might not even come to understand in the near future.

If your child has ADHD, the following are some strategies that can help you find out a way to make their lives easier. When they get home, you need to try and come up with a plan for tracking their homework and their assignments. You should make it a point to ensure that every time they come home, they jot down notes on what they did. If possible, you will also need to follow up with their teachers to ensure that everything that they have written is the way it should be.

Next, you should have a scheduled time for homework, during which they are supposed to focus on nothing other than their assignments. You will need to make sure that you follow this schedule to the latter, so that over time they come to get used to it too, and find it easier to focus on their assignments.

In the event that you do not have an idea about homework routines, it might also be a good thing for you to think about talking to their teachers about their routine, so that you can have something that is not too heavy on them, nor too light to make them slack off the remedial schedule.

Breaks are important for such a child when they are doing their assignments or even when they are just studying. Try and set small breaks like 10 or 20 minutes for them to help them regain their focus, ease off the pressure and recharge so that they can continue again after sometime. The most important thing that you need to do however is to understand your child’s limit and when to call it a day.
